Japan

In my recent trip to Japan, I noticed how precision and care were put into the act of being mindful, with society putting a larger emphasis on community than individual. The ritual of mindfulness extends further than the obvious and is more than the preparation of a Japanese tea ceremony or a train instructor practicing Shisa Kanko. The act of purposeful action is embed deeply into society with even the simple task of giving and receiving change, becoming a ritual and an art form. Many western countries attribute these acts to the sense of order that you instantly notice in the major cities of Japan, but all things exist at once and where there is order, there must also be chaos. I have a desire to look deeper than how teinei the Japanese population is and instead I want to understand what lies beneath the surface; where did this culture originate, how is this ideology passed through generations, what positive and negative impact does this have on society and how does this compare in underground cultures?
